file format and extension of "XLLAddin.xll" don't match

description

Hi Team,

I have Visual Studio 2012.
I run setup.msi and project2010.msi .
All installs ok and builds ok.

But the XLL that gets generated is not recognized by Excel 2013 with the error : "The file format and extension of "XLLAddin.xll" don't match"

Any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong here?

thanks,
Mike

Are you using 64 bit Excel? Are you building a 64 bit add-in?

Good point. I was indeed using 64 bit Excel but i was not building a 64 bit addin which would explain the error.

I observe that i do not get the option of building an "x64" configuration.
The only option i get is a "Win32".

I can try to work out how to create an "x64" config, but if you happen to know where i can find one please point me to it.

Many thanks again for spotting my original error,
Mike.
